Peace Collaborative Services has a number of full-time Psychologists who provide psychological services to students in the region.
Psychologists tailor their services to the particular needs of each child and each situation. Psychologists use many different approaches and may play many different roles, but on the PCS. team the main roles involve:
Consultation
Psychologists consult to both school personnel and families.
- Suggest effective alternative strategies to teachers, parents, and administrators regarding problems in learning and behavior.
- Help solve conflicts and problems in learning and behavior.
- Help others understand child development and how it affects learning and behavior.
- Provide social skill training, behavior management and other strategies to assist with successful inclusion in the school environment.
- Strengthen working relationships between educators, parents and community services.
Assessment
Psychologists use a wide variety of techniques of assessment:
- Informal observational assessment of learning environment and adult / student interactions dynamics.
- Formal intellectual assessment and identification of learning styles.
- Adaptive behavior.
- Academic skills.
- Personality and emotional development.
- Social functioning.
- Eligibility for services and qualification.
- Learning environments and classroom climate.
In-service
Psychologists develop programs and presentations on topics such as:
- Autism Spectrum Disorders – Identification and programming techniques.
- Working with students who have disabilities.
- Modification of education programming.
- Assessment techniques and strategies.
- Teaching and learning strategies.
- Behavior assessment and programming.
- Classroom management strategies.
