Curriculum

In Alberta, curriculum or Programs of Study are determined by Alberta Education. The curriculum identifies what students are expected to learn and do in all subjects from kindergarten to Grade 12. You can find the new K – 6 Curriculum and the current Gr. 7 – 12 Programs of Study on the Alberta Education website.

The Grande Prairie Public School Division does not decide what is taught in our schools. Teachers in the division are responsible for delivering the curriculum in ways that are most responsive to student needs.

Kindergarten to Grade 6 Curriculum Implementation

Alberta Education released its new K-6 curriculum in Science and French Immersion Language Arts and Literature in spring 2023, for implementation in 2023-2024 school year. This is in addition to the previously released new curriculum in English Language Arts and Literature, Mathematics, and Physical Education and Wellness in fall of 2022.

French Immersion Language Arts and Literature (K-3), Science (K-3), English Language Arts and Literature (4-6) and Mathematics (4-6) are now being used classrooms across Alberta.

Alberta Education has shared new curriculum resources for parents and school boards, as well as an implementation plan, on their new digital resource, LearnAlberta.
