Welcome International Students
Students from around the world are welcome to study for months, semesters or years in our schools as international students.
Established in 1911, the Grande Prairie Public School Division proudly provides publicly funded education for Preschool, Kindergarten, and Grades 1 to 12 in the City of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. Currently, we have approximately 8,800 students.

Important Information
Entrance into the program will be dependent on the Canadian Government's travel restrictions as well as the removal of any existing restrictions in the applicant's home country. If Study Visas are denied due to travel restrictions, a refund will be applied towards tuition and student medical insurance. Any international students would need to follow quarantine requirements and any relevant public health orders.
Eligibility
International students are eligible to apply for admission based on the following criteria:
- Students who are not citizens of Canada or Landed Immigrants of Canada (i.e. permanent residents)
- Students whose parents live in and are citizens of countries outside of Canada,
- Students are in Grade 6 to Grade 12
- Students who are proficient in English with completion of an International Test of English Proficiency Exam
- Valid student authorization issued by Immigration Canada (note: students will not be permitted on a visitor's visa)
- Students have prearranged a residence to live within the City of Grande Prairie
In addition, students must also meet all other admission requirements of our school division as stated in Administrative Procedure 304 – International Students.
Fees

The schedule includes:
- A non-refundable Processing Fee of $250.00 CAD is payable upon application.
- Alberta Education does not fund international students. An International Student Tuition Fee is payable annually when the student's parent lives outside of Canada, and the guardian resides within Alberta. Fees are set annually. Our current International Student Tuition Fee is $12,000.00 CAD
- The Medical Insurance Fee of $500.00 CAD must be paid prior to application approval
