The Music Program (5-8) in our Division provides students the opportunity to be part of an inclusive and vibrant community. All students are supported through quality programming which inspires curiosity, increases confidence, embraces creativity, and develops a sense of personal achievement. Our music program creates a community rich with diversity and collaboration which encourages lifelong learning.
While classroom music instruction continues to be offered at your current school, this specialized Music Program Grade 5-8 is not offered at all schools. Aspen Grove, Derek Taylor Public School, Ecole Montrose, I.V. Macklin Public School and Roy Bickell Public School will offer Music Program Grade 5-8 at their sites. If you are interested in Music Program Grade 5-8 for your child, you must register and attend one of these schools full time.
This specialized Music Program Grade 5-8 is scheduled during the regular school day. In addition, students will have opportunities to participate in performances and activities inside and outside their regular day.
Transportation is not provided to out of boundary students registering at a site for Music Program Grade 5-8. Families will be responsible for transporting their child. Boundary students follow the regular transportation guidelines.
All students are required to attend their boundary High School for grade 9. GPPSD High Schools continue to offer specialized robust music programs.
No, there is not a program fee for Music Program Grade 5-8. The Division has a number of instruments for students to use at no cost. However, some families may choose to rent or purchase their own instruments. If they choose to rent or purchase an instrument this would be the only cost for the program.
