Free Speech and Language Screenings for Children Born in 2021 or 2022

Do you have concerns about your child’s speech or language development? The Grande Prairie Public School Division (GPPSD) is offering free speech and language screenings for children born in 2021 or 2022 who may benefit from early support.

These screenings help determine if your child may qualify for the Program Unit Funded (PUF) Pre-Kindergarten program—a supportive, play-based program for children with developmental delays.

Who can Participate?

Children may be eligible if they:

  • Are 3 or 4 years old as of December 31 of the current year
  • Will be registering to attend a GPPSD school for Kindergarten
  • Show signs of mild, moderate, or severe speech/language delays, as diagnosed by a qualified professional (e.g., speech-language pathologist, pediatrician, psychologist) and meet Alberta Education’s Special Education Coding Criteria

You May Want to Book a Screening If:

  • Your child isn’t talking as much as others their age
  • They have trouble understanding instructions
  • It’s hard for others to understand them
  • They don’t seem to understand what’s being said to them
