Building Leadership: Student Safety Patrollers in Action

At Swanavon and Aspen Grove Schools, Grade 5 and 6 students have marked their second month as school safety patrollers. These young leaders volunteer to spend time helping students cross safely to and from playgrounds and schools. The students take this role very seriously, which reflects their commitment to contributing to a safe and caring environment.

“Our student safety patrollers are building their leadership skills while fostering a culture of citizenship and responsibility at our school,” shared Garth Paquette, Principal of Swanavon School. He highlights that the patroller program is one of the many ways of building a connected school community.

Student safety patrollers can also be found at other GPPSD elementary schools, where they make a positive impact every day. Thank you to all our patrollers for building community and making a difference!

We are grateful for the partnership with Grande Prairie's Alberta Motor Association, as they work with our schools and train our student volunteers. For over 80 years, the Alberta Motor Association has partnered with schools across Alberta. Read more: School Safety Patrol Program | AMA.
