Joan Nellis

I was born and raised in Grande Prairie. I have been a Trustee since 2017. I think the one of the best parts of being a Trustee is having a voice in the conversation. There are so many parts of the Trustee job and I have really enjoyed learning and striving to make decisions that make GPPSD a better division than before. Outside of being a Trustee and most importantly, I am a mom and wife. I also am a partner in a construction and oilfield rental company, an avid reader, a travel lover, and proud Rotarian. I love that public education brings everyone together, all abilities, religions, ethnicities and socioeconomics. We are able to create community, build understanding and create great neighbours. Priorities that I believe are important to our Division is that there is a lot of work going on, but I believe appropriate funding to create sustainable programs that make a difference to students and staff is important. I also know that the new curriculum and everything that comes with that from advocacy to planning and budgeting is a big priority for us right now.
