New Families registering a child in GPPSD will use SchoolEngage where first time users will need to create an account to start the process. SchoolEngage is accessible anywhere on the web.
- Sign into SchoolEngage
- Select 'Add Student' to add the new child
- Select 'Student' in the menu
- Select the students name in the student list that you wish to register
- Select the 'New Student Registration Form' for the correct year from the Forms Menu on the right
- Select 'New' for that form
- Complete the New Student Registration Form
Step-by-step instructions document
Families that have children who are not currently enrolled in a GPPSD school, but have attended a GPPSD school in the past, need to use the email they used previously with GPPSD and reset their password on the SchoolEngage account. Contact your school for assistance.
Families will receive an email after February 28, 2024, with instructions to pre-populate their 2024-2025 Kindergarten Registration Form. (please check your email junk folder if you cannot find it)
Follow this process
- Sign into your PowerSchool Parent Portal account
- Select the SchoolEngage button on the left navigation menu
- Select Student in the menu (child who is registering for Kindergarten)
- Complete the 2024-2025 Kindergarten Registration Form
Form(s) must be submitted starting March 11, 2024, at 8:30 a.m.

GPPSD Kindergarten Programs
Kindergarten is the first step in your child's educational journey. GPPSD schools are open to all children and are committed to welcoming, caring, safe environments where your child will develop essential literacy and numeracy skills. At GPPSD, the curriculum is determined by Alberta Education and follows provincially mandated instructional hours.
- Kindergarten programs are either full days or half-days, offered in either the morning or afternoon, with hours of operation varying from school to school.

Children must be at least five years old as of December 31 to start kindergarten in the fall of that calendar year. This means that a four-year old child may start kindergarten if they will turn five on or before December 31 of that calendar year.
To attend Kindergarten in the Province of Alberta children must be at least 4 years 8 months of age and less than 6 years of age on September 1. A child with a late in the year birthday after September 1 can be enrolled the following year.
All Kindergarten students attend for 475 hours in a given school year. Supports may be provided based on the child’s identified need.
