Indigenous Art Exhibit Visits Schools

Indigenous hand drum and moccasins in school library

We are proud to host the Rooted Connections, an Indigenous art exhibit with GPPSD connections! This thought-provoking and visually stunning exhibit was created with our students in mind. It's part of the Albert Foundation for the Arts TREX Program and was co-curated by GPPSD's Indigenous Liaison, Loriann Gignac.

Loriann and other local artisans within the Indigenous community supplied the exhibit's artwork, which will visit several of our schools this year.

The TREX Program

The Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) has supported a provincial travelling exhibition program since 1981. The mandate of the AFA Travelling Exhibition (TREX) Program is to allow every Albertan to enjoy visual art exhibitions in their community.

The TREX Program also offers educational support material to help educators integrate the visual arts into the school curriculum. It is curated from various sources, including private and public collections. This growing art collection consists of over 9,000 artworks showcasing the creative talents of more than 1700 artists. We are grateful to the artists and everyone who made this project a reality for our students.
